If you were looking to get a job in the coffee industry, and live in Southern California, now’s the time! The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, a coffee chain with nearly 900 locations in 30 countries, is looking to hire 250 new team members in California locations.
Cassandra Smith, who lives in Culver City, told CBS Local recently “I had a friend actually who works at Coffee Bean. They told me they were hiring so I went online and applied to a bunch of different locations, and I was hired.”
Smith has now been working for the Coffee Bean for the past 3 months. Her training took just a few weeks, and she’s enjoying interacting with customers and making the specialty drinks. “It’s fairly easy once you get to remember all the recipes, then it’s like muscle memory, you don’t have to think about it. But it is a little overwhelming at first.”
Mel Elias, who is now CEO, started off at the company in 1997 as a marketing manager. He went on to open the first locations in Singapore and Malaysia. He states that “We have countless stories of team members who started as baristas and who are now in meaningful positions in executive offices.” he told CBS.
Elias continued, stating that the company is looking to hire new people with personality and values matching the companies desire for a friendly, respectful image that promotes teamwork and honesty. He stated to CBS, “We are very proud of our company, we think we have a fantastic culture, and we really are growing. We’re opening many more stores so we’re encouraging anyone interested in working here to please apply.”
